The Federation for Hunting and Conservation – Malta (FKNK) cordially notes the recent discoveries at Għar il-Latnija and commends the efforts of the University of Malta, the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, and the Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology for their work in uncovering and preserving this significant part of Malta’s historical heritage.

As guardians of the area surrounding Għar il-Latnija, the FKNK has actively supported and cooperated with the authorities since 2021.  FKNK’s contribution during the early stages of archaeological work included site upkeep and ensuring the area remained safeguarded from incompatible activities.  All this was carried out with full respect for the confidentiality and sensitivity required at the time.

The FKNK therefore acknowledges and appreciates the recent communication from the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, which recognised the FKNK’s collaborative role and confirmed that the FKNK will be engaged as a stakeholder in upcoming consultations relating to the site.

Thus, the FKNK remains committed to the ongoing protection and promotion of Malta’s cultural and natural heritage through constructive collaboration with national institutions.
