Inauguration of the 4th Malta Taxidermy Federation National Competition







The Malta Taxidermy Federation, in collaboration with MEP Alex Agius Saliba and the Federation for Hunting and Conservation. – Malta (FKNK), are proudly hosting its 4th National Taxidermy Federation Competition. This event will be open to the general public from Friday 22nd March to Sunday 24th March, at the Renaissance, Montekristo Estates. Visitors will have the opportunity to admire the work of local taxidermists while enjoying activities for the whole family.


Once again, it is a pleasure to announce that international judges Mr. Jan Fredriksson and Mr. Gilles Becquet have accepted to give their professional judgement and diligent evaluation on all mounted specimens and recognize excellence in different categories.


Three workshops will take place simultaneously with the exhibition on Saturday 23rd March, starting at 11.00am.

  • The first workshop, titled “The Art of Taxidermy; Its current Status’, will focus on the art of Taxidermy including expert analysis from our international Judges accompanied by FKNK Vice-President Andrew Psaila and FKNK Treasurer Daniel Bonello.

  • The second workshop, titled “Hunting and its challenges at EU level’’, will focus on various challenges Malta and all member states are facing. These topics will be address by MEP Dr. Alex Agius Saliba, our distinctive guest, Senior Conservation Manager for the European Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FACE), Mr. Cy Griffon, together with FKNK’s President Lucas Micallef and FKNK’s CEO and Vice President for FACE Mediterranean Lino Farrugia.

  • The third workshop, titled 'Cultural Gastronomy, Assuring our Identity’, will give light to the sustainability of hunting through Gastronomy. Together with Dr. Noel Buttigieg, Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Tourism, Travel & Culture at the University of Malta, FKNK Vice President Andrew Psaila and FKNK PRO Gerald Vella  we’ll share an insight about this interesting topic.


Furthermore, attendees will have the opportunity to indulge in game meat tasting, courtesy of Chef Bradley Borg, adding a culinary dimension to the event.


The opening hours for the exhibition are as follows:

- Friday, March 22nd: 16:00hrs - 19:30hrs

- Saturday, March 23rd: 09:00 - 17:00hrs

- Sunday, March 24th: 09:00 - 18:00hrs


At the inauguration, remarks were delivered by MTF President Mr. David Falzon, FKNK President Lucas Micallef, and MEP Alex Agius Saliba, emphasising the significance of preserving cultural heritage and biodiversity while fostering sustainable practices in hunting and conservation efforts.


All specimens on display have been legally acquired and meticulously inspected by the relevant authorities, ensuring compliance with regulations governing wildlife preservation.
