BIRDLIFE WANTS THE TOTAL ABOLITION OF HUNTING AND TRAPPING

The ultimate goal of BirdLife Malta is to totally eradicate any form of hunting and trapping from the Maltese islands throughout the year: in other words, this is what the CEO of BirdLife Malta, Mark Sultana, said during a debate that he had with the PRO of the Federation for Hunting and Conservation - Malta (FKNK), Gerald Vella, on Saturday, in a radio programme "103 Malta's Heart".

This was not the first occasion where Sultana made such a statement in public.

BirdLife Malta and Sultana should be reminded that The European Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FACE) to which the FKNK is affiliated, had reached an agreement with BirdLife International to which BirdLife Malta is affiliated, where amongst other it was agreed that: "both organizations recognize the historical and ongoing significance of the compromises incorporated in the Birds Directive in relation to hunting....". As well as for the recognition that was declared in the European Charter on Biodiversity where it says that: "The use of wild resources, if it is sustainable, is an important conservation tool because the social and economic benefits derived from such use provide incentives for people to conserve them."

Once again, this BirdLife Malta attitude clearly demonstrates the limitless arrogance, the deception with unsupported allegations, and the lack of respect of BirdLife Malta, vis-à-vis the Government, the Courts of Malta as well as of Europe, and the will of the Maltese and Gozitan people expressed in the 2015 Referendum.
