Malta's Harassment by the EC

Writer: FKNKFKNK

The Federation for Hunting and Conservation - Malta (FKNK) has noted that the European Commission (EC) has sent a letter of formal notice to Malta for failing to comply with the judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ) of 19 September 2024 (C-23/23) regarding Malta's application of a new derogation allowing the live capture of seven species of wild finches for research purposes in the autumn of 2024.  Malta now has two months to respond.  Finally, the EC threatened that in the absence of a satisfactory response, it would refer Malta back to the ECJ and ask for fines to be imposed.

This bullying of Malta by the EC is nothing new.

The FKNK, as it has always done, has already called upon all its expert resources in the field and will offer all its competent advice, both technical and scientific, to the Maltese Government and the Minister responsible, who is committed to upholding the local socio-cultural regional tradition of live bird trapping by ensuring satisfactory solutions for both the EC and the local trappers.
